Pet Therapy Services
From reducing blood pressure to boosting healthy hormones, man’s best friend isn’t just walking the halls of Health First hospitals. They’re helping pursue the over-all mission of providing the highest level of comfort and care—no matter how big or small—and further humanizing local health care, one dog at a time.
But not any dog does the trick. Health First’s pet therapy dogs were specially trained by non-profit groups. Dart by Canine Companions for Independence and Lexi by Therapy Dogs, Inc. After completing requirements for their respective organizations, both then underwent Health First’s registration and certification process before going to work. Lexi's been with Health First more than two years and Dart goes on record as the first and only dog to receive the prestigious Rainbow Award from the Brevard Association of Human Services.
Health First’s interest in the physical and psychological benefits of pets stretches beyond patients to people in the community. Part of Health First’s Bright Star Center for Grieving Children and Families, The Bright Paws Pet Food Bank provides pet food to needy owners—and has distributed more than 22,000 pounds to more than 450 families to date.
